🚀 This feature is now live - check out more details in the Managing Live Chat Messages During Livestreams article!
Workvivo will shortly roll out Content Moderation for Livestream Chat, giving organisations greater control over live conversations during company-wide broadcasts. This update enables admins, moderators, and participants to manage chat content in real time - helping ensure a safer, more professional environment for large audiences.
In addition, this release includes a couple of smaller enhancements to improve the overall viewing and chat experience.
These updates will be available across mobile & web.
What is changing?
With this release, organisations will be able to actively manage live chat during livestream events. Previously, there was no way to moderate messages once posted.Â
From May 11, we'll introduce controls to help address this, such as:
- Livestream Moderator role: Admins can assign a new Livestream Moderator role via the admin hub, allowing designated users to monitor and manage chat during live events.
-
Delete live chat messages (moderators & admins): Moderators and admins can remove inappropriate content, including:
- Individual messages
- Entire message threads
- Edit or delete messages (message authors): Participants can manage their own messages by editing or deleting them during the livestream.Â
- Playback moderation experience: After the event, message authors can still edit or delete their messages in the playback experience. Existing reporting functionality remains unchanged.
We’re also rolling out small but impactful improvements to chat and playback experiences.
- Edit subtitles during video playback: Users can update subtitles directly during playback, improving accuracy and post-event content quality.
- Expanded live chat character limit: The maximum character limit for live chat messages has been increased from 300 to 600 characters, enabling more detailed and expressive communication.
Why we're making this change?
Livestream chat is a powerful engagement tool - but without moderation, it can introduce risks such as disruptive behaviour, or off-topic commentary.
Content Moderation helps organisations:
- Maintain a respectful and professional environment
- Increase confidence in enabling live chat for large events
- Prevent disruptive or harmful interactions in real time
With Content Moderation, organisations gain real-time control over livestream chat -enabling safer, more professional large-scale events - while added enhancements like longer chat messages and editable subtitles improve both engagement during the event and content quality afterward.
What do I need to do?
There’s nothing you need to do to prepare - these enhancements will be automatically available once rolled out from May 11, 2026.
