We're excited to announce the upcoming launch of Custom Audiences! This new capability gives admins a flexible, reusable way to target content to specific groups of employees - without needing to create new Spaces or Teams.
Whether you need to reach a project team, a regional cohort, or a cross-functional group that doesn't fit neatly into your existing org structure, Custom Audiences lets you build the audience once and reuse it wherever you need it.
What's Changing
1. Build Flexible, Reusable Audience Lists
A new Custom Audiences dashboard in Admin Hub lets you create named audience sets with a description and avatar. You can add members in three ways:
- Search - find colleagues by name and add them directly.
- CSV upload - bulk-add members by uploading a list of email addresses.
- Auto-enrolment - define rules based on existing teams (e.g. departments, locations)
- Membership updates automatically through provisioning - new joiners who match are added, and leavers are removed, with no manual upkeep required.
Once created, a Custom Audience is available to select as a target when publishing content across Updates, Journeys, Billboards, Newsletters and Custom Landing Pages. You can also edit, export, and reuse audiences across multiple content types.
Why it matters
No more creating thousands of Teams just to target content, and no more duplicate posting to cover different groups. Custom Audiences give you a clean, centralised way to manage who sees what - reducing admin overhead and keeping feeds less noisy for employees.
2. Target Content with Precision
When creating content, you'll see a new Custom tab in the audience picker. Select one or more Custom Audiences - both manual and automated sets appear here - and publish. Content appears in each member's activity feed, targeted precisely to the right people.
Members of a Custom Audience don't see who else is in the set and aren't notified they've been added. They simply see the relevant content in their feed.
Why it matters
Admins can reach the exact people they need to - a new-hire cohort, a leadership group, a regional team - without broadcasting to everyone. This means more relevant feeds for employees and more effective internal communications for your organisation.
3. Privacy and Access Controls
Custom Audiences are managed by users with the Administrate Custom Audiences permission (granted to Admins by default, and available via a new Custom Audience Administrator role).
Only users with this permission can see Custom Audience names when viewing targeted content - all other users see a generic "Custom Audience" label. Membership is never surfaced on a user's profile.
Why it matters
Sensitive groupings stay private. Your employees see the content that's relevant to them without knowing the audience logic behind it, and only authorised admins can view and manage the audience sets.
Why We're Making This Change
Many organisations have outgrown the Team and Space model for content targeting. Custom Audiences address this by providing a lightweight, purpose-built solution that:
- Eliminates the need for workaround structures like one-off Teams or duplicate posts
- Supports precise, at-scale distribution to any combination of employees
- Reduces reliance on email as a fallback communication channel
- Keeps employee feeds clean and relevant
What Do I Need To Do?
No action is needed right now - this will be automatically available once released on October 6, 2026 (feature specific availability may vary).
Once available, Admins can begin creating custom audiences and assigning the new permission to their chosen end users.
