Enable richer communication with Custom Presence & Status, a chat feature that lets users set personalised availability indicators and status messages. This enhances clarity, reduces interruptions, and improves collaboration across teams.

How It Works & Benefits
- Personalised Presence Indicators
Users can manually set their status (e.g., “In a meeting,” “Working remotely,” “Out for lunch”) in addition to automatic presence detection (online, offline, on a call, Do Not Disturb).- Benefit: Colleagues know your availability at a glance, reducing unnecessary pings and improving response timing.
- Enhanced Context & Clarity
Custom statuses provide context beyond default presence states.- Benefit: Helps teammates understand your current focus or availability, fostering smoother workflows and better collaboration.
- Improved Team Coordination
Especially useful for remote or distributed teams.- Benefit: Reduces miscommunication and aligns expectations across time zones and work styles.
Step-by-Step: Setting Your Custom Presence & Status
Access Presence Settings
On Web:
- On Chat, Click on the Avatar on the top of the Channel list → Hover over the current status - Adjust to Online (Auto), Busy, Away, Out of Office
- Also Click your profile avatar in the top-right corner → Hover over the current status - Adjust to Online (Auto), Busy, Away, Out of Office
- On Mobile: On the side navigation there is an update status menu, this is also accessible from Chat when you click on the Avatar on the channel list.

Create a Status
Type a custom message (up to 100 characters) to reflect your current activity or availability.
Set Duration (Optional)
- Choose how long the status should remain active (e.g., 30 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours until end of day/Week or custom).
- Or leave it indefinite until manually cleared.
Clear or Update Status
- To remove: go back to Set Status and select Clear Status.
Visibility of Status
- When messaging someone - their status will show up on the footer of the channel.
- The same would show up in the group channel if you tag someone.
On Mobile
Do Not Disturb
- Users can disable all Chat notifications from this menu also.
- Similar to your custom status - Notifications can be set to DND for specific periods of time (e.g., 30 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours until end of day/Week or custom).
- Do Not Disturb can be set as its own Presence/Status also - you can also overwrite this to one of the other Presence indicators.
- Eg Set Presence to Out of Office, and Disable your notifications for 1 week
